In my role as the school's ICT co-ordinator, I have attended various professional development sessions to enrich my knowledge and up-skill myself. I have learnt the importance of continued learning, and I have increased my ability to communicate in an effective way. Every fortnight I hold a professional development session for our school staff. I support staff to look into many areas of learning and to link all learning activities to the Australian Curriculum. I encourage them to create new ways to deliver the curriculum into our students through the use of iPads and their applications, interactive activities in the interactive white board and the use of different online programs such a s reading eggs and mathletics to mention a few... I have been asked on several occasions by the AASE (Australian Association of Special Education) to provide training for pre-service teachers and other teachers across the state on how to create interactive activities for children with intellectual disabilities. These sessions have been held at both private/ independent and government school sector. I have developed and delivered these sessions with great focus on best practice pedagogy. The most recent session was held at our school and I received very positive feedback. I was also one of the presenters at the ACT Specialist Schools Conference. I will be now conducting more training sessions for the Special Education schools cluster and showcasing what our school does to engage and facilitate learning, at the next“professional conversations” session, held every term. My leadership role is recognised and valued at the school, as we consider and design modules of work based on knowledge specified in the Australian Curriculum documents. The work undertaken by our active curriculum committee to coherently organise equitable and accessible teaching and learning programs, is strongly enhanced and supported by my ongoing technology coaching and training role.
I know that unless all staff has the expertise and confidence to use a range of technology in the classroom many of them would not be able to assess and report on acquired student knowledge. Gathering timely and effective feedback has long been a challenge for teachers of students with disabilities and to be able to facilitate student responses to their learning is a key benefit of the devices.
The ICT plan has been a great platform to develop a written document that will continue to develop as our needs change. I am now in the process of creating more links between our school and our neighbouring High School through learning partnerships, connectivity through emails and facetime and video links between schools.

I have also approached the Principal to add at least one ICT goal to every student ILP. This initiative will support our scope and sequence technology plans.
I have played a major leadership role in the strategic development of technology at this school. I have actively guided and led the shaping of our school culture by integrating and embedding technology in the classrooms, changing attitudes to technology by supporting students and staff in and out of the classroom and providing an effective and dynamic attitude to change. I am now training staff in the creation of digital portfolios for our students, a task that is also being used by more and more teachers to have real and tangible evidence of the amazing work students are doing in the classrooms. This will also maximise the connectivity between school and home and provide the evidence to show how we, as a school, are taking technology to the next level.
I know that these changes are making our school a leader in the “Special Education” model. I am responsible for transforming our students into active members of our community and I am modelling and integrating a modern way of life, that reflects current and future technology.
